Difference between crash dieting and intermittent fasting
Want that beach ready body ? Want to look good for your wedding ? Crash dieting is the way to go ! The problem however is, crash diets invariably fail. After crash dieting almost every time you tend to gain back the lost weight and then some. So if you started the diet at 85kg and started eating again after reaching 80 kg, you tend to gain weight and reach 83-85 kg.
This is because we have inherited a very intelligent body. It prepares for such an emergency in future and decides that in case such a scarcity does happen again, i must be prepared with some extra weight to reach the set point which the body recognizes as 80 kg. In any case, the body will try to reach its recognised set point whether you gain or lose weight. That is because through the years it already recognises the set pattern of your feeding habits and activity levels. Not to mention the stress of not eating in crash diets which raises cortisol, the drop in your metabolism rate when suddenly the body perceives a lack of enough food and of course the resulting fatigue and brain fog which discourages you and creates a fear for such crash diets.
So how to attain and keep a healthy and energy rich body for the rest of your life ? The answer is commitment to lifestyle change. The willingness and motivation to look and feel good is key. And then comes the time to throw in the master key ! INTERMITTENT FASTING.
Our bodies are not designed to handle the constant intake of food and snacks every hour or two which is made affordable and easy in our modern lifestyle. For thousands of years man has lived in the mode: Feasting and Fasting. And the DNA remains the same today. Even if it does change with time, such changes take thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years to attain the genetic changes. And modern life has changed the feeding habits in the last 50 or 100 years at most.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day ? Not so. We are eating out of habit and not because we are hungry. Its lunch time i must eat. Well am i hungry ? Did you ask yourself ?
Keep a gap of at least 6 hours between meals. Stop eating sugar as much as possible. Try eating two meals a day. Do not eat at least 3 hours before bed to let your digestive system sleep with you. Try eating more whole foods. Do away with Processed foods Do not use refined grain oils. These are some simple rules to follow to get a lean and healthy body and believe me your energy levels will increase as you eat less frequently. Doesn't matter if you eat larger portions in two meals but reduction in the frequency of eating is very important.
Of course leading an active life or exercising regularly coupled with lowering your stress levels by following your hobbies and meditation can do wonders beyond your imagination.
Try and your body will thank you.
