Kidney Disease
Our incredible body has an infinite capacity to heal and reverse disease. Every human has two kidneys. When one kidney gets completely damaged and the other reaches a damage of 70 % the body starts to send signals that there is something wrong! In effect therefore, 30% of just one kidney is enough to perform the functions that 2 kidneys do. If someone has regular checkups and catches the disease early, there may not be a requirement of kidney replacement.
That said, let us see what the kidneys do. Kidneys are performing an important function of filtering out toxins and eliminating them through urine. But that is just one function out of a host of others. They are also responsible for maintaining a balance of fluid and regulation of sodium, potassium and calcium. They are involved in making hormones which make red blood cells from the bone marrow. Incredibly, they actually filter and reabsorb many minerals to maintain this balance.
We have a responsibility to provide help and do whatever we can for the proper function of our kidneys besides having regular checkups to check their proper functioning.
The main reason for kidney failure is regular consumption of a high carbohydrate diet. That is why kidney failure is so prevalent in diabetics. Studies have shown that following a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting can actually benefit or reverse Kidney disease. Polycystic Kidney disease and kidney stones are some of the more prevalent kidney diseases and detoxifying the kidneys with Curcumin, drinking 2-3 litres of water and eating more salads and vegetables will help resolve many issues.
Since the kidneys are involved in balancing the electrolytes, their malfunction can cause high blood pressure and have a negative effect on almost every organ in the body.
Keep a vigilant eye on your kidneys and make attest of the Kidney Function (KFT) at the first sign of disease like pain, frequent urination, arrhythmia, high blood pressure or dark urine which indicates less body fluids and may result in kidney stones.
Keeping a check on carbohydrate consumption, eating less sugar and sugary foods and drinks, incorporating green salads and reducing consumption of refined oils will serve to keep your kidneys functioning well.
