The Epidemic of High Blood Pressure
Hypertension (High blood Pressure) patients are growing by the day. It is a disease which affects every part of the body and internal organs causing extensive damage to the heart, arteries, kidneys, liver, eyes, brain and many others.
Why then is the modern lifestyle causing the numbers to rise exponentially ? Feeding habits and sedentary lifestyle are largely to blame. The underlying cause of high blood pressure is Metabolic Syndrome and as one starts to make a correction of his or her metabolic syndrome, the blood pressure automatically starts to reverse and normalise.
The main things to do for a start are to make a test of your CBC which will tell you the HDL cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol and Triglycerides. The other things to note are your weight (BMI) and Insulin Levels. If you are overweight, chances are that you will develop hypertension although being overweight is not always the cause. Some thin people are also hypertensive because they are actually retaining fat around their organs. Again, being thin does not mean that one will not be hypertensive.
So let is start from the most important steps to manage and reverse high blood pressure:
Start eating whole foods. Nothing artificial, processed, canned or preserved. All fast food, refined oils, refined flour, biscuits, pasta, noodles etc must be stopped.
Stop eating every few hours and start practising intermittent fasting with two square meals and no snacks. Try to do away with sugar and sugary drinks as much as possible even gradually and finally stop altogether.
Try periodic prolonged fasting of 48 hours or more with only water. No fruit juices.
By restricting your carbohydrate intake, your insulin levels will start to come down and your metabolic instability will normalise. It is now that your blood pressure will also start to come down. Please realise that medicines for blood pressure do not treat the cause. They address only the symptom. That is why you have to continue taking medicines forever and live with the dangerous side effects that are inflicted.
Exercise and movement is important. Realise that our bodies are made for movement and not for the sedentary lifestyle 24/7 in front of the computer. But the most important thing to note here is that exercise alone cannot bring down your weight. Neither can restricting calories. Do yourself a favor and forget the concept of calories in and calories out. It never works.
As I have been constantly saying in my other articles, try to lead a life with minimum toxins and stress. Already we have the environmental and other unavoidable toxins to deal with. Start eating whole foods and bring down your stress levels. Do not rely on your blood sugar levels as the main culprit is Insulin which is a fat storing hormone. Unless you bring down your insulin by restricting carbohydrates, you will not be able to manage blood sugar and hypertension.
