In ancient times there was only one kind of milk which contained A2 Beta Casein Protein. It is the same protein that is found in Human Milk and that is why it is easy to digest and provides several health benefits without the large majority reacting adversely to it. 


Then came a difference in the genetic code of the cow and it started producing A1 Beta Casein. Western cows which produce a large amount of milk like the Holstein Cows are giving A1 Beta Casein which actually looks, tastes and feels like the same as A2 Beta Casein. In an effort to bring cheaper milk in more quantities, these cows producing significantly larger amounts of A1 Beta Casein milk started becoming more popular. The problem is A1 Casein Milk is more difficult to digest and unlike the A2 Casein milk is not tolerated well by children specially.

Traditional cows in India like the Gir and Sahiwal varieties give only A2 Casein milk and it is very beneficial for consumption. Buffalo and Goat milk is also ONLY A2 Casein and specially goat milk is very easily digested and tolerated by humans. 


Butter and Cheeses made out of Grass Fed traditional cows and buffalo or goat milk afford a plethora of benefits and actually prolong life. Cheeses are a staple diet of people living in the  Blue Zones the so called areas with people having the most life expectancy like Japan and Italy.

A2 Casein Milk may be a little more expensive than A1 Casein milk primarily because it is produced in smaller quantities and is not so readily available but the benefits it affords for health are certainly worth the price. All products like Ghee and Butter, Yoghurt and Cheese are better tolerated, more easily digested and afford wider health benefits when consumed with the A2 Beta Casein Protein.

If it is difficult for you to find or decide which type of protein is contained in the Cow milk you are consuming simply switch to Buffalo or Goat milk and you can be sure you have the right protein.
