Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia)
What is hypoglycemia and how can you fix it ?
Hypoglycemia is a condition where the glucose level in your blood falls below 70 and since glucose is very tightly regulated by our body, the body will try to do whatever it can to keep it at an optimal level.
The thing to realize is that hypoglycemia is very rare and mostly the symptoms which we associate with hypoglycemia like sweating, irritability, sugar cravings, mood swings etc. maybe due to other things and if you check your blood sugar chances are that it maybe normal.
So why do we get all the symptoms? It's because of Insulin Resistance. Eating a high carbohydrate diet, frequent eating (like snacks every 2 hours) and chronic stress can cause insulin to be at a high level and since it is chronically high, the cells start to develop a resistance to it. In effect therefore, although your blood sugar is good, the cells are starved of glucose. And it is because of frequent high carb. diet.
To correct this situation, you have to go from insulin resistance to insulin sensitive. To achieve this, one must cut down the carbohydrate intake to less than 50 grams in a day, stop eating frequent meals and snacks and train the body to start running on fat as fuel instead of glucose. That way you start producing ketones which is the preferred fuel of your brain, your hunger will disappear as fat is a more stable fuel source and your energy level will rise.
Make exercise a routine and do everything you can to bring down stress because stress will also keep insulin level high. Incorporate more green vegetables and salads in your food to get enough potassium.
As you become more insulin sensitive your hypoglycemia symptoms will also disappear. And you will be surprised by the increase in your energy level as well as decreased hunger pangs.
