Why some women get facial hair and what can be done about it
We have this condition where besides facial hair, some women get hair on their back and chest as well. There are several reasons for that and unless one has the exact picture, it can be very perplexing and difficult to understand.
Among other reasons, there is the Cushing's Syndrome where the Adrenal Gland starts producing too much cortisol. Then there might be a problem with ulcer in the adrenal gland or pituitary gland. Then there is (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) probably the biggest cause and symptoms can include an absence of the Menstrual Cycle, diminished fertility, appearance of Acne and Insulin Resistance which may be because of the overproduction of Cortisol.
You might notice a deepening of your voice too. The imbalance of androgens and oestrogen is a major factor and that is where the actual confusion starts. Because there might be a prescription for Metformin which makes sense because you are insulin resistant but there are the side effects to be dealt with. Birth control pills might serve to balance out the oestrogen as against the androgens and that is going to help.
Normal advice for PCOS is taking more whole grain foods and fruit juices. Vegetables. So how is it possible for anyone to reduce insulin by eating whole grains and fruit juices. Fruit juices are minus the fibre in the fruit and they are in all aspects dealt by the liver which is the only organ that processes glucose and fructose. Whole grains may take only a 10 minute longer period than refined grains to be converted to sugar. So this diet is definitely not helping your insulin resistance. Yes the Metformin technically will but it comes with a host of side effects.
Therefore the high Insulin is actually causing the high amount of androgens which then cause PCOS.
I hope if you have seen my previous posts it may be by now clear why i keep talking about insulin most frequently. Because it is a modern lifestyle problem which is responsible for practically every problem in the body. Do everything you can to lower insulin by reducing your daily carbohydrates. Do intermittent fasting by eating fewer meals and giving up all those harmful snacks. So lowering insulin helps you lose weight. Your cycles come back as you become more fertile. Your acne also start to disappear. And your problem with facial hair also starts resolving as it is largely an androgen problem Yes be careful with your stress levels. Because whatever you eat, your insulin will keep raised up if you are stressed. Practice Meditation and indulge in your hobbies. Goes a long way.
