There are several factors besides age that can lead to a compromised immune system leaving you vulnerable to infections and as your body is not able to heal itself, taking more medicines complicates things even more. 


As we age, our ability to fight diseases diminishes. Other factors like taking antibiotics will deplete your gut microbiome which in turn affects the immune system. People on chemotherapy have practically killed the immune system. Taking steroids will also adversely affect the immune system.


Eating a high carbohydrate diet and too much sugars with absence of whole foods and fibre which can provide pre and probiotics for the gut will also have a negative effect. Raised stress levels also tend to increase insulin and as your blood glucose levels rise, your body is struggling to store the excess. Due to this constant preoccupation, the immune system is left exposed to deterioration.


Fortunately, there are several things we can do to fortify and strengthen our Immune system. As we age, our stomach acids tend to decrease leading to poor digestion and less nutrient absorption. It is therefore beneficial to keep the Ph of the stomach between 1-3 and taking Apple Cider Vinegar half an hour before meals can greatly help.


Fermented foods like pickles, lacto-fermented vegetables, sauerkraut, curds, kefir, kimchi, a2 Casein Cheeses like goat and buffalo milk cheese will all provide friendly bacteria and increase the gut flora. The more diverse your gut flora is, the healthier you are and the stronger your Immune system will be.


Sleep disturbances, high stress levels and a constant high carb diet are all very undesirable and tend to compromise your Immune system. Sleeping at least 6-8 hours and regular meditation, breathing exercises, walking and eating healthy foods rich in healthy fats and proteins will definitely fortify the Immune system regardless of your age.


Taking Cow Colostrum is another potent method for strengthening the immune system as it helps to increase growth hormones, antibodies and intestinal health.
