How to Bulletproof your Immune System to fight off Infections
Their are certain Vitamins and Minerals that are essential for a fully working Immune System without you are susceptible to infections and are unable to create a proper defense for survival.
The most important and the one that affects a large part of the population is Vitamin D. It is involved in a lot of bodily functions and especially important for the immune system as it serves to calm down even an overactive one thus protecting us from infections. Cod Liver Oil is a good source as is exposure to the sun. In case one is very deficient, it will take a high dose of 40,000 IU to 60,000 IU over a considerable time like 3-6 months.
The other important Vitamin is Vitamin E which protects the Lipid Membrane which forms the outer layer of cells. It is also involved in fighting off pathogens by Hydrogen Peroxide which literally kills them on contact. Sources include Leafy Greens, Grass Fed butter and Nuts.
Another very important one is Vitamin C. It increases resistance to fight off pathogens by increasing neutrophils which hog pathogens like yeast and fungus.
Vitamin A is an important one as well. It is involved in making antibodies which find and recognize and mark off the undesired pathogens which must be eliminated. The Immune system army then takes over and destroys them. Without this key vitamin, the ability to find and recognize pathogens severely diminishes. Sources include Grass Fed Butter, egg yolks, and vegetables like carrot however, one would have to eat a lot of vegetables to get the precursor which is beta carotene which the body converts to the active form of Vitamin A that is Retinol. The ability of the body to convert however is small so the quantity of vegetables will be quite large to reach the required optimum level.
Zinc is involved with several hundred enzymes and it serves to allow the Thymus gland to do its job and a deficiency of Zinc will shrink the Thymus. Within the Thymus the lymphocytes or T Cells mature. They are the trainers of the Army of our Immune system and without them, our Immune will not know how to protect us by fighting and killing pathogens.
Sources of Zinc include Eggs and Red Meat, Pumpkin seeds and supplements.
Trace minerals like Selenium and Copper are also required for a properly running Immune System. Selenium makes Glutathione, perhaps the most potent antioxidant in our body. Copper works with Zinc and Selenium for their proper functioning. Seafood is a good source as are Brazil Nuts. The requirement of Trace minerals is very small however important they are for example just one Brazil Nut a day is enough for providing the required Selenium.
Fortify, take care, be vigilant and keep taking a varied diet which preferably avoids Refined Oils and Packaged and Processed foods which actually deplete our body of essential nutrients and Minerals.
