How to Reverse a Fatty Liver | VR Healthy Ageing
Stand Straight and look down towards your toes. If you are unable to see them, chances are that you are suffering from a fatty liver. In fact anyone with a protruding belly has a fatty liver. The main culprits for a Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) are Sugar and Refined Oils. Our bodies are not designed to handle so much sugar intake as a modern man regularly ingests. Since the Liver is the only organ dealing with processing sugar, it gets overwhelmed and starts storing the excess as fat known as visceral fat mainly around the belly and sides.
The other culprit is refined oils and fried foods. Refined vegetable oils are actually seed oils. It is not an easy process to extract oil from seeds like corn, sunflower and cotton seed etc. These oils are highly processed by using Hexane as a solvent (Hexane is a by product of petroleum refining), heated to sometimes 2000 degrees celsius and thereafter they go through various processes to degum, deodorise and raise their smoke points. They are very high in Omega 6 and very damaging to our body.
To paint a broad picture therefore, Fatty Liver is caused by an overwhelming due to consumption of Alcohol, Fructose, Toxins and Insulin.
Point to be noted: Eat Fat to Store Fat is a myth. Eating Fat will not cause fatty liver. Eating Red Meats and Salt will not cause Fatty Liver. On the contrary, Low Fat Alternatives of Fat and Yoghurt for example are very damaging to health. That’s because except fat, milk is converted to sugar and probably the only thing in milk to slow down the process is fat and if you remove it, you are practically ingesting sugar.
To save your liver from being overwhelmed, one must avoid Alcohol, Sugars (Natural and Added Sugars) where quantity is important be it any form of sugar from fruit juices to honey to white sugar or for that matter Jaggery, all are processed by the liver. Also avoid Starches - White Rice and Brown Rice are not much different and same is the case as white bread and whole grain bread -just a margin of difference
So the next question arises - what do I eat ? . Answer: Eat Whole foods practically anything without a label (does Cauliflower of cabbage need a label?) Avoid Refined oils and go for Cold Pressed oils like Olive, Mustard or best of all, Grass Fed Butter and Ghee. Biscuits, Waffles, Fried foods, processed foods, refined Flour all will eventually contribute to a fatty liver.
Be wise and take care of your health. Liver is the only organ which is able to regenerate and reverse the damage caused to it so it is never too late. Start to undo the damage now !
